Use the search bar at the top of the page to filter mechanics by service, region, suburb, certification, and rating. Mechanic Finder ranks every mechanic by verified customer reviews, Google review score, and overall feedback so the strongest workshops appear first. You can also browse by region from the homepage, then drill into a suburb to see the workshops closest to you. Every listing shows opening hours, services offered, certifications, photos, contact details and a map — so you can choose with confidence before sending an enquiry.
Yes — completely free. Submitting a "Get a quote" enquiry through Mechanic Finder costs nothing and carries no obligation to book. The mechanic receives your request directly and replies with pricing, availability and any clarifying questions. You can compare multiple quotes from different workshops before deciding. Mechanic Finder never marks up prices or charges booking fees: whatever the workshop quotes is what you pay them directly.
Most workshops reply within a few business hours, and the large majority respond inside 24 hours. Reply speed depends on how busy the shop is and the time of day you submit. To get the fastest response, include your car's make, model, year, registration (if available) and a clear description of the symptom or service you need. The more detail you give, the faster the mechanic can quote without follow-up questions.
A WoF is the standard roadworthiness inspection required in NZ. It checks the vehicle's safety-critical components — brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, exhaust and structure — against a national standard. Many mechanics listed on Mechanic Finder are authorised to carry out WoF inspections. Use the service filter on the search bar to see which workshops offer it, and check each listing for current pricing and booking availability.
Ranking combines several signals: verified Mechanic Finder reviews, Google review rating and count, response rate to enquiries, and profile completeness (hours, services, certifications, photos). Workshops with more than ten reviews are prioritised so newer or thinly-reviewed listings don't outrank established ones by chance. Featured and Pro listings get a visibility boost in their region but still need genuine reviews to hold a top position — paid placement does not override review quality.
Reviews on Mechanic Finder come from two sources. First: customers who submitted a quote request through Mechanic Finder and later left feedback — these are marked as verified because we can match the review to a real enquiry. Second: Google reviews, which are clearly attributed and link back to the workshop's Google Business Profile. Verified reviews are flagged with a badge so you can tell them apart from anonymous Google reviews. We do not allow shops to write or edit their own reviews.
Yes. If you submitted a quote through Mechanic Finder you'll receive a follow-up email after the job, inviting you to rate the workshop. You can also leave a Google review directly on the shop's Google Business Profile — those reviews appear on the listing automatically. Genuine reviews — positive or negative — help other car owners make better decisions, and help good workshops stand out from the rest.
Yes. Mechanic Finder lists mechanics across every region of NZ. Coverage is densest in major cities, but regional and rural workshops are included too. If you can't find a mechanic in your area, try widening the search to the nearest larger town — many regional workshops service surrounding suburbs. New listings are added regularly as workshops sign up or are verified from public business records.
Sign up as a shop owner, claim or add your listing, and verify ownership through the standard checks (business records, phone or email). Free listings are always free — you'll get a public profile with your services, hours, contact details and photos, plus the ability to receive customer enquiries directly. Featured and Pro tiers add extra visibility in search results, priority placement on regional pages, and enhanced profile features. There are no contracts: upgrade or downgrade whenever you want.
Receiving enquiries on a free listing costs nothing. Free-tier workshops get the same enquiry inbox and reply tools as paid tiers — there is no per-lead fee, no commission, and no markup on the quoted price. Paid tiers (Featured, Pro) pay a flat monthly subscription for extra visibility and profile features, not per enquiry. This keeps incentives aligned: Mechanic Finder earns from workshops that want growth, not from charging them for every customer who fills out a form.
No. When you submit a quote on Mechanic Finder, your contact details are shared only with the specific mechanic you contacted. We never sell, rent or pass customer data to third parties, and we don't send marketing email on the workshop's behalf. The mechanic replies to you directly using the email or phone number you provided. You can read the full privacy policy from the footer of any page.
