Complaint Regarding WOF Charges I recently experienced significant issues with the charges for a Warrant of Fitness (WOF) Initially, they attempted to charge me nearly $300 for the service, which was far more than expected. Breakdown of Charges They claimed an extra $65 was required for labour. There was an additional charge of over $100 for using a lift to inspect the back of the car. Another $95 was added as original WOF charge. They also quoted $2,154 for steering repairs. I refused to pay these excessive charges, especially since the price was clearly listed on the wall as $89. After challenging the charges and expressing my dissatisfaction, they ultimately reduced the price to $89. However, they refused to provide the original quote. Comparison with Other Providers Seeking a second opinion, I went to a different company. Their quote for the same services was only $527, which was significantly lower. The experience was shocking and highlighted the importance of comparing service providers before proceeding.

Great service. Courtesy car avaliable. Rang & emailed job sheet through to me. An excellent job done on cleaning my milky looking headlight lenses, that are twenty years old. Absolutely clear as now & they look like new. Thank you.

I didn’t want to leave a review online. I wanted to provide my feedback via phone call and leave it there, but the dismissiveness of the phone call made me feel it’s best to give people a heads up. First of all, I’m not questioning their capacity to conduct repairs on cars and get jobs done. That’s the bottom line for a mechanics and they do that well. I’ve been taking my vehicle here since 2021 and have ALWAYS left with questions or uncertainty, and they could absolutely avoid that by being better at communicating. A blemish in 2021 was telling me my car has “a HUGE oil leak” and that I should get onto it. They quoted me somewhere around $140 for the assessment and then would quote me the cost of repairs after the assessment. I didn’t spot the oil leak myself, and I just kept my mind on it for a while in case the oil leak was a problem. When it came round to getting my WoF in 2022, I asked them to assess the oil leak. They did so, told me there wasn’t one, and charged the assessment anyway. I didn’t raise issue at the time because I was in the process of moving out of the country and had bigger fish to fry. The next WoF inspection in 2023 was fine. They helpfully pointed out that the dealership I got my car from gave me ice tyres (illegal for NZ). I brought it up with the car dealership and they gave me new wheels on the car, so that was nice. The next one, I had to replace my brake light. They quoted me ~$800-900 for the part, and that didn’t include installation cost. I got the part myself for $480 and fitted it in 30 minutes. Today, they correctly pointed out things in my car that need repairing/replaced for my WoF, as well. They also added suggested repairs, with the entire thing totalling $2,478 ($2,019 excl. two tyre replacements) What made me raise my eyebrows at this quote was an oil and filter change being priced at $332. This is… in need of urgent review by their team because that is utterly disproportionate. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a quote higher than $180 for this. I picked another mechanic at random via google search. Told them what my car needs to pass its WoF + suggested repairs. They’re giving me everything needed excl. tyre replacement for half of that price. And that includes a full vehicle service. I didn’t say where I came from, or what I was originally quoted, so there was no price beat policy regarding this mechanics quote. When I called to cancel my appointment with Leading Edge, I let them know the price difference as a point for feedback, and asked for clarity on how they get to their price point. The guy on the phone wasn’t letting me finish my sentence before a standard “we’re sorry you felt you had a poor experience with us”. Which isn’t what I said. I just wanted clarity because different places do more comprehensive or less comprehensive services and I wanted to hear if that’s the reason behind their price. Instead, it’s just a dismissive response. If you’re going to charge people at a premium price, then you MUST provide premium communication. Especially when it comes to explaining what steps you guys take to getting to the prices you quote. Best of luck with your services in future. After my WoF is signed off, where we can chat about all this in person, you guys won’t be seeing me again. Nearly five years of coming to you guys, can’t say I didn’t wait around to see necessary developments in customer service. EDIT: If you’re going to have ChatGPT write your reply to a review that’s calling out poor customer communications and over priced services, you guys seriously need to come back to reality. Insane.

I had a pre-purchase inspection done here. Very impressed with the service as I rang multiple times with questions and I was made to feel it was no problem at all. I will definitely be bringing my car I here for its annual WOF and service. Thanks so much David for all your help, and thank you to the lads that assessed my car!

I recently dealt with David at Leading Edge Automotive, and I couldn't be more impressed. Such professional, friendly service from start to finish. We were even given a great loan car to use while ours was being worked on, which made everything so convenient. David took the time to explain everything clearly and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Cannot recommend them highly enough.
